It’s that time again. Everyone’s cold, suffering from s.a.d and just holding on for the celebration of capitalism (or the birth of your saviour if you’re that way inclined) which is Christmas. We at the House believe a skateboard isn’t just for Christmas it’s for life and as such we have the widest selection of “new best friends” you’ll find this side of the Atlantic! We currently have full ranges of wood and wheels from the U.K.s finest brands including Death, Third foot, Heroin, Landscape and Blueprint. If it’s the rest of the world you’re interested in we have Stereo, Plan B, Shit, Zero and Death Wish to name but a few. If you’re after anything in particular drop us an email or call on 0114 2490055 to find out.

We are now doing mail order. So if you can’t find the time to get down we can send it to you. All boards come gripped and ready to go.

On a sadder note The Story Store have become the latest casualty to the current economic conditions as according to their website they will be closing for good at the end of December. I’m afraid we’re back to a lesson which skaters just don’t seem to be able to learn, IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SUPPORT YOU, YOU NEED TO SUPPORT THEM. Skater owned shop, and in some rare cases skater owned skateparks, are the backbone of the U.K. scene without them no one will get sponsored, video premiers won’t happen and demos and comps will be a thing of the past.  Please remember that the next time you’re getting a deck for £3 cheaper on ebay or in primark buying a t-shirt.

House comp 2008

To those of you who didn’t manage to make it to a rather messy night in May: It may, just may, have escaped your notice that it’s the House Skatepark’s tenth anniversary this year. That’s ten years of dishing out good skating, verbal abuse and fizzy pop to our beloved skate community. And the festivities continue at the House’s annual comp on Saturday13th September. The House is celebrating this landmark with the unusual one-off prize of a TEN YEAR PASS for those scooping first place in our 12 and under, under 16 and 16 and over competitions. This means a decade of skating absolutely free to the fortunate few who prove worthy. Yes, we’re that confident we’ll still be here in 2018.  As for the pros, you’d think they get enough already, but just to be fair we’ve upped the pro cash prizes to £400 for the winner, £200 for second place and £100 for third.

All this excitement aside, it’ll be business as usual. The park will be open from 10am- 9pm and it’s £5 to enter, skate or spectate. Connoisseurs of fine food will be delighted that Masterchef will be serving up their usual ‘curry in the carpark.’ And there’ll be a chance to find the answers to those questions which have baffled mankind: Will Calow get pissed and insult everyone over the mic, will Oli be out of plaster in time to wreck himself all over again, will Smedley finally crush the opposition after years of trying?  This year’s comp is being supported by Shit Skateboards, Death, Blueprint, Unabomber, The Harmony, Karma Skateboards, Stereo, South Star, A Third Foot, The Story Store, Avit Skatestore, Plan B and Jones Soda.

Be there to find out, or look back in your dotage on a life lived badly.

Holidays Times

From Monday 21st July til Friday 29th August we will be open 11am til 9pm on the weekdays and 10am til 9pm on the weekends.

Hello all,

Sorry I’ve not done one of these things out for a while, but we’ve been busy with all manner of nonsense:

HOUSE MOBILE SKATEPARKS

This beauty was designed by us and delivered to the village of Laxey on the Isle of Man earlier this year.

It consists of a flat bank, driveway with a rail, a quarter pipe, fly off, grind block and manual pad. It can be stored and transported in a large trailer, also provided by The House, and according to feedback, has been loved by all.

We offer a ‘bespoke’ park building service and will design and build anything from a simple block to a full park according to client specifications and budget. Any councils or groups looking for something similar should get in touch through the website.

HOUSE 10th BIRTHDAY PARTY

The House held a party on 10th May to mark our tenth anniversary. It was an entertaining evening, well attended by the Sheffield scene who have supported us down the years, it was great to see so many faces from back in the day, as well as our current crop of young skaters. It was also nice that so many people put the effort into traveling from around the country to celebrate with us. We hope those who made it enjoyed chilling in the House bar, decorated by Dan with a superbly squiggly squid, watching skate videos from the comfort of deckchairs and a manky sofa. Out on the park itself, some pretty impressive skating took place – impressive mostly due to the amount of alcohol some of the participants had imbibed, although whether that improved on or detracted from their performance is open to question. The House also received not one but two birthday cards lovingly scrawled on by members old and new. We’re proud to be displaying them down the park (and on the website) and it’s good to know we’re appreciated, so thanks.

To those who didn’t make it – you missed a great night. Maybe see you at the next one in 2018?

Hello all, are you cold yet?

Now we’re back indoors for a while we thought we would try to brighten up your Thursday nights.

As you already know Thursday is our late night and to keep you further entertained we’re showing skate films on our big screen.

The first one in this series was the premiere of the Death film “Better Than Life” and it was amazing. If you missed it you’ll have to wait til the end of the month when Death central office assures me it will be in the shops.

The next one will be on Thursday 29th at 7:30 and we will be showing the new Birdhouse film “The Beginning”.

Shop news

The new house deck is finally out.

After months of speculation the new House graphic “Spider City” has finally hit the shelves. It’s available in 7.5 7.75 and 8 we also have some more of the “Tree House” decks which proved so popular last year. Both are now in the shop for £35 each.

New block

After E.A. left two very large bits of stone in the park we thought we better add to it.

The new block has a grit stone side and a marble side joined up with a few bits of wood.

Check out the image gallery for a couple of shots of it.

New moveable wall ride

The House builds the things other people aren't stupid enough to try.
